Formula for Growth
Shelton is strategically located within 250 miles of one-third of the U.S. population and at the crossroads of international trade routes. Its proximity to major airports and transportation arteries, make it the ideal location for companies of all sizes, regardless of their individual needs. With most of its commercial growth concentrated in a 1,000 acre area, there is more than 3 million square feet of Class A office space, five first class hotels, several fine restaurants, extensive support services and several hundred thousand square feet of manufacturing, distribution and retail space.

Taxes
In May 2005 the Board of Aldermen approved a $92 million 2005-2006 budget. The tax rate for 2005-2006 is 23.59 mills. A mill generates $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value. Shelton has continually maintained one of the lowest tax rates in the area while maintaining high quality city services.

Grand List

Shelton’s Grand List of taxable property rose by 1.8% in 2004. The City’s Grand list has shown a steady growth with a 63.4% increase over the past 12 years. This continued growth in the Grand List is key to Shelton’s future. It keeps taxes stable and affordable while providing adequate money for a superior level of community service.
