Shelton is home to six K-6 elementary schools, a state-of-the-art intermediate school for grades 7 and 8 which opened in September 2001, and a high school serving more than 1,790 students. In addition, Shelton offers special education and related services for students, ages 3–21.
Shelton employs a total of 434 certified staff, which includes teachers and administrators, along with a support staff of 114 employees. Opportunities are provided to participate in professional development activities and enhanced learning experiences. The educational program is supported by an annual operating budget of $55,751,000.

Elementary Education
Each of Shelton’s six elementary schools provide an enriched, hands-on curriculum using a balanced approach to reading and writing which stresses both skill development and the use of real literature. In addition, our elementary schools offer fully integrated art, music, physical education and technology instruction. Support services are available in reading, special education, gifted and talented, social services and English as a second language.

Shelton Intermediate School
Shelton Middle SchoolIn the fall of 2001, Shelton Intermediate School relocated to its new home and shares the campus facilities of Shelton High School. This new state-of-the-art structure consists of 177,000 square feet of space and is designed to accommodate 1000 students. The middle school organization is based upon the cluster or "team" concept, where students in grades 7 & 8 are assigned to a four member teaching team in an effort to divide the school into smaller learning communities. Each student will receive his or her instruction in the core academic areas within this cluster, while moving out to the larger facility for instruction in the unified arts program.

Shelton High School
The mission of Shelton High School is to prepare its students to be knowledgeable, responsible, and productive members of an ever-changing and complex global society. In pursuit of this goal, Shelton High School recognizes and respects the cultural, social, and economic diversity of the student body. Students learn in an educational environment which supports each individual in the achievement of his or her goals.

Special Education Services
Shelton strives to meet the diverse needs of all children in the school system. The district does an outstanding job meeting each student’s individual educational needs. A continuum of special education services are offered in every school. Students with a disabling condition are evaluated and provided with an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Private Education
Shelton is home to two tuition-based parochial schools. St. Lawrence School in Huntington and St. Joseph School provide elementary school programs and activities for students in grades K-8.
